GLOSSARY
Control total
The figure a file publishes about its own contents: the grand total on a ledger export, the record count in a report footer, the deposit amount on a settlement statement. A control total is evidence, never a row to sum, and a pipeline that adds it to the detail it summarizes doubles the answer.
Principle 1 · An AI never authors a number
Where does Control total come from?
Principle 1 of the Kymira doctrine, An AI never authors a number. Control total is the name the doctrine gives to what that principle requires in practice.
What does it look like on a real file?
A ledger export's footer states a grand total; the detail rows must tie to it and must never include it.
Not for
Not for files that state nothing about themselves. Where there is no control total, the figures are published labelled unproven.
