GLOSSARY

Claim vs system of record

A platform's own number is an assertion by an interested party on its own window and model; a system of record figure comes from the store, the ledger, or the ERP and ties to an anchor. The two sit side by side and never sum, because adding claims to measurements invents revenue nobody made.

Principle 9 · A platform's own numbers are claims, not facts

Where does Claim vs system of record come from?

Principle 9 of the Kymira doctrine, A platform's own numbers are claims, not facts. Claim vs system of record is the name the doctrine gives to what that principle requires in practice.

What failure is Claim vs system of record named after?

The platform grading its own homework. Ad platforms report the conversions they believe they caused; summed, they routinely claim more revenue than the business made.

What does it look like on a real file?

Meta reports the conversions Meta believes it caused; the storefront reports orders. The page shows both and sums neither.

Not for

Not a judgement about accuracy. A platform claim can be useful and well measured; it is still an assertion on that platform's window.
